16 Jun Being humane!
“I don’t know what to do, I feel helpless!” we may have heard this statement or the like, at times either from friends, family or acquaintances, these words maybe a cry for help and not a question that needs a philosophical answer about life and poetry. In my view, this is mostly the first sign of a troubled state of mind, when helplessness begins to creep in.
Bollywood actor, Sushant Singh Rajput’s sad and untimely death has opened up a plethora of questions around how ‘humane’ are the ways of humans. The responsible party here is allegedly Bollywood’s apathetic and selfish ways. Maybe we should introspect our own actions and life in general, how humane are we? How many times have we reached out to another to find out how they are doing, especially in times of financial crisis or despair. You may find people ready and willing to help out with funeral arrangements or handhold a grieving family. How many really stand out and support somebody who has lost his/her job or are going through a financial crisis. Our relationships are mostly governed by the economic or social status of people. The trend is to follow the resourceful and steer clear of people that are perceived as a ‘liability’! As humans we seem to be so engrossed in our own sense of need and desires that maybe we forget that there is more to life than the 4 squares around us. I agree it’s not always possible to dole out cash and support others financially, but just being there to help/support is not a terrible thing to do.
Humans are driven by passion, expectation and success, how you get there and what it takes to get there may be lost on many. ‘Real’ friends and associations are hard to find, when success avoids you ‘sympathizers’ are considered as ‘real’, but when you get up there you may find yourself lonelier, as the ones that may surround you acknowledge and accept your success and not ‘you’ as a person. This in my view is the bane of most cases of despair and loneliness in successful individuals. The lockdown may have opened up a lot of hidden fears and frustrations, as being isolated/alone takes away the cushioning effect and you feel emotionally naked. It has opened up an emotional deluge of ‘misgivings’, ‘inadequacies’, ‘self-doubt’ etc. in people who have a sense of unhappiness and feel LONELY and emotionally ISOLATED!
I am not a psychologist, hence can’t really comment on the differentiating factors between a state of despair, helplessness, depression or sadness. All I know is popping a pill or perpetually thinking ‘positive’ or believing that ‘ignoring it’ may NOT be the solution to this situation, instead ‘recognizing’ a problem exists maybe the starting point. ‘Asking’ or ‘giving’ help and support is what counts and matters as it costs nothing and may save a life.
The cliché survival of the fittest is bent out of shape, how about activating ‘Live and Let Live‘, enabling each other to survive and cope, is and should be considered our ‘moral’ responsibility as humans.

Posted at 06:31h, 16 JuneThe life today is full of unnecessary spaces and the virus of greed and ego has peaked with community spread. We have to realise that each one of us will die eventually and nothing is permanent neither the good times nor the bad times. The vultures of isolation, despair, pain, loss, ego, sadness are circling and waiting for you to give up. Don’t do that…get up and make a loud noise, shoo away the vultures and keep moving. Believe that God has given you the life with a purpose, for a purpose and don’t give it away just like that. If you are going through a bad phase believe in yourself and keep moving as the good times are just round the corner.

Posted at 15:41h, 16 JuneYou get a life after so many rebirths and one has decided to end the life it in a second. You didn’t have the gratitude towards your parents who brought you in this world. You are doing so well, better than 95% of Indians.. You still feel depressed and decided to end your life. People with out their limps, eyes have become role models and motivate every body. You with a proven intelligence tried to prove yourself to be a cowardice. The world has not come to an end and you should have proved your worth. rather than looking for sympathy in the competitive world. Girija well written but in my personal view I don’t think such persons have right to live who have no respect for their parents. Who suffered because of this cowardice act of his?

Posted at 09:11h, 17 JuneYour emotions are well place. The times we live are unprecedented in many ways, and its not just the pandemic that has stirred hidden behviours. Today instant gratification and short fuse patience is the result of the gadgets the youth are addicted to. Unfortunately ‘rejection’ may not set the intent to achieve better, but it maybe considered end of the road!

Posted at 09:14h, 17 JuneVery true, its interesting to see how much a deceased person is loved by the world, when they would have died of loneliness…The least anybody can do today is care and share.

Posted at 08:22h, 17 JuneI have posted my comments which I am unable to trace, hence my effort for the second time.
Congratulations Girija for choosing a topic each one of us are affected one or the other way because of the people around you not being humane.
I totally disagree with the person’s decision for committing suicide.. There are 95% or more Indians who are much below your status. You are competing with 5%people for your established status. You have already proved yourself an intelligent person being a student of Delhi College of Engg.. You are role model for many.. Still you took the cowardice step to end your life and blaming others. This is a competitive world.
There are persons with out limps, organs,, blind, hearing impaired, with chronic diseases . There are people struggling to get one time meal
We get birth as human after endless rebirths. What wrong the poor parents have done. Such cowardice persons has no right to live who are fed up with live because others are not humane.
